N. C. Woodturning Symposium

The North Carolina Woodturning Symposium will take place at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex’s Special Events Center, Nov. 3-5, 2023. This highly anticipated biennial event, renowned as one of the largest of its kind on the east coast, will gather woodturning enthusiasts from all over to celebrate and share the craft.

Woodturning, a craft with a rich history dating back 2,500 years, involves shaping objects on a lathe using specialized gouges and chisels. Traditionally associated with the creation functional items such as chair legs, candlesticks, and bowls, woodturning has evolved into a modern art form that embraces individualism, creativity, and expression. The objects produced are as varied as the people who turn them.

During the North Carolina Symposium, attendees will have the opportunity to witness demonstrations ranging from functional bowls to cowboy hats and abstract artistic vessels. Not confined to wood alone, artisans will also showcase items made from paper, copper, and a plethora of surface embellishment techniques.

A creative pursuit suitable for all ages, woodturning will be showcased through 48 demonstrations exclusively available to registered symposium attendees. The conference will also feature a free trade show and exhibit gallery, where folks from all across North Carolina will show off their very best woodturned art! The NC Symposium welcomes the public to explore and immerse themselves in the woodturning experience.
